At 6-2, the Vikings find themselves a trap game candidate as they had to Jacksonville to face a Jaguars team that reportedly will be without their starting quarterback. It’s an opportunit to not only to put another win towards their playoff campaign, but to do what the team has struggled to do in the past… take care of business, the way they should, against bad teams.

Former Vikings linebacker turned analyst, Ben Leber, not only thinks the team will do just that, but thinks Sam Darnold will return to early season form in doing so.

Appearing on KFAN’s Nine to Noon with Paul Allen, Leber gave his lock of the week prediction involving the starting quarterback.

“So, eight of the nine games [the Jaguars] played, they’ve given up one hundred plus passer rating. So that’s my lock for this week. That Sam Darnold, now he’s been fantastic… but he will have a PHENOMENALLY efficient game. He will be throwing for A LOT of yards. He will have a HIGH HIGH efficiency rate.

It fits what he’s been doing all year long. It fits what the Jags have given up all year long.

But I’ll add on to that. The Jags just DONT BLITZ. They might be the lowest in the league when it comes to blitz rate. Now, that doesn’t mean that they don’t blitz on certain money downs and they won’t give you certain looks and they won’t try to confuse you. But I think the reason why they give up so many explosive plays down the field is you’ve got time to throw. Which fits again perfectly what KOC wants to do. KOC is a deep shot play caller. It is nibble, nibble, nibble, take a shot.

And so I think we’re going to have our opportunities with our speedy guys to get some shots down the field. So I’d [in addition to the efficiency]expect some explosive plays against the secondary.”

Leber’s analysis becoming a reality would provide a big boost for Darnold and the offense. Before the second half of the Colts game the unit had massively underwhelmed for the last 14 quarters, given its talent and coaching.
