It can be easy to get used to greatness. No matter how impressive it is, when you see excellence time and again, you become accustomed to it. This is the Justin Jefferson experience.

As Jefferson seemingly breaks new records on a weekly basis, it’s sometimes difficult to truly understand how special he is. Yes, we know he’s the best receiver in the game, but it takes on a different level when someone close to the situation hammers it home.  This week, on KFAN’s Nine To Noon with Paul Allen, Kevin O’Connell did just that.

When Allen mentioned the great Randy Moss, KOC took the opportunity to impress upon people how unique his receiver is.

“I was on the field with Randy Moss, and… I have been around a guy that won the Triple Crown[Cooper Kupp]… during our Super Bowl year in LA” KOC said. “And I just think Justin is capable of just about anything in this league. And the thing that I just hope people understand… what he is playing against is different than what anybody else is… nothing but respect for we have some phenomenal receivers in our league…but I just hope people understand exactly what he plays against on a week in and week out basis.

I promise you folks it’s not coach speak, it’s real… Head down to, if you play pickup basketball, head down to the gym and have three out of the five guys on the court cover you…that’s basically what people attempt to do every single week. [They] find new ways to do it, and Justin doesn’t blink. We figure out ways and we work through it together and he makes play after play for us when we need it.”

It’s a good reminder, in a league filled with star receivers, that all wideouts are not built the same. The measure of a player is generally the attention the opposition gives. Randy Moss literally changed the game. He reinvented the deep fame and changed the way opposing cornerbacks were drafted. Jefferson may not be there but it was important to O’Connell for people to understand he’s getting the sort of attention that only the all time greats are getting.
