After a tumultuous and contentious run as the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator, Matt Canada has officially been fired by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“Matt Canada has been relieved of his duties as offensive coordinator. I appreciate Matt’s hard work and dedication, and I wish him the best moving forward in his career,” Mike Tomlin said Tuesday morning.

A move that probably comes a year and a half too late for most Steelers fans gives hope that the team can right their offensive ship and help their sputtering young quarterback, Kenny Pickett.

The Steelers, an organization known for its consistency and unwillingness to move on in a rash manner, was finally pushed to its limit when the team’s fourth-quarter magic ran out against the Browns in an ever important divisional match last Sunday. For Canada, it’s hard to say anything other than that he got his fair shot. There aren’t a lot of teams in the NFL that would keep their coordinator around despite  being outgained every single game through 11 weeks.

There is no official word on who will be calling the Steelers’ offensive moving forward, but quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan and running backs coach Eddie Faulkner will reportedly assume Canada’s duties.
