A week after getting soundly beaten by the Buffalo Bills, the Miami Dolphins got right back on track against the struggling New York Giants. Mike McDaniel made it clear that he didn’t believe in “get right” games last week, but on Sunday the Dolphins once again looked right. Vic Fangio and the defense stopped the run and forced New York into obvious passing situations and despite Tua Tagovailoa‘s interceptions, the offense got their balance back crushing New York on all fronts.

Let’s go through some of the numbers that made up the big win.

150 – For the second time in three weeks, the Dolphins deployed both a running back and a wide receiver that gained 150+ yards. These were the first times the organization has achieved this.

66.7 – With the win against the Giants, Miami now stands at 4-1, for the 16th time in franchise history. Over the previous 15, they made the playoffs 66.7% of the time.

7 – Miami’s defense finished the contest with 7 sacks, a big improvement after only getting 3 in the past two games combined.

13.7 –  Yards per carry by Rookie phenom De’Von Achane.  He continued to chunk opposing teams accumulating 151 yards on only 11 carries.

455 –  Total rushing yards by Achane over the past 3 weeks, becoming the fourth player in franchise history to achieve such a 3 game streak.

1 – Head coach Mike McDaniel won his first challenge of the season! The win allowed the Dolphins to maintain possession rather than giving the Giants a first down.  Miami has won only 2 challenges in the past 2 years.

29 – The defense held NY to 5/17 third down for a 29% success rate.  A big improvement after coming into the game allowing opposing teams teams to convert 46.15% of the time.

21.76 – On his 76 yard touchdown run, Achane reached 21.76 miles per hour, which is the second fastest speed in the NFL this year. Oh by the way, the fastest speed of 21.93 miles per hour was also by Achane.

513.6 –  The Dolphins amassed 524 yards vs. the Giants, while bringing their league leading average to 513.6 yards per game.  The NFL single season record is 467.1 yards per game, currently held by the 2011 New Orleans Saints.

22 – The NFL record for total combined touchdowns by a rookie running back is 22, which was set in 1965 by Chicago Bear running back Gale Sayers. De’von Achane is on pace to top the mark, already having 7 through the team’s first 5 games.
