The Numbers Behind Miami’s Week 15 Loss
In a game in which the Miami Dolphins desperately needed a win, their stretch of four wins in five games came to an end after leaving Houston with a 20-12 loss. Tua Tagovailoa, who’d been heroic since his return to the field, had one of his worst games of the season, and the Dolphins now sit at 6-8 on the season.
What are the numbers that defined Miami’s loss to Houston?
4 – Tua was “credited” with four turnovers today; three of them were interceptions and one of them was a lost fumble in the second quarter that led to a quick Texans touchdown.
68 – Tagovailoa’s first interception occurred near the end of the second quarter, when Calen Bullock caught a pass intended for Tyreek Hill and returned it 68 yards to the Dolphins’ five-yard line.
2 – Tua’s final interception occurred on the first play of the Dolphins’ final offensive drive, as Derek Stingley picked off a deep pass intended for Hill. It was one of two interceptions that Stingley caught this afternoon.
52 – The Dolphins’ leading wideout, Malik Washington, had 52 receiving yards in today’s game. It was two yards fewer than his season total coming into the game.
1 – The Texans’ leading rusher, Dare Ogunbowale, had one carry in the game. The carry was for 35 yards.
6 – The Dolphins gave up two C.J. Stroud touchdowns, both of which were six-yard passes to Nico Collins.
7 – Hill was limited to two receptions for 36 yards, despite being targeted seven times.
1 – Jason Sanders missed his one extra-point attempt in today’s game. Despite making his first twenty attempts this season, he has missed his last two attempts and has not converted a PAT in the last three games.
5:27 – Jaylen Waddle left the game with an injury with 5:27 left in the second quarter; up until that point, he was held without a catch.
5 – Jonnu Smith scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter; it was his fifth touchdown in the last five games.
1.5 – Chop Robinson and Zach Sieler both had 1.5 sacks apiece on Stroud. Sieler has totaled 3.5 sacks over the past two games.
60.3 – Dolphins punter Jake Bailey averaged an astonishing 60.3 yards per punt today. It was the first time this season that he has averaged over 50 yards per punt in a game.
