The Miami Dolphins have lost a big part of their pass rush with defensive tackles Christian Wilkins and Raekwon Davis defecting to the Las Vegas Raiders and Indianapolis Colts, respectively. How will Miami fix these holes on the pass rush?

Right now, at least, there’s no replacing their defensive line losses. So the Dolphins have decided to focus on the next-best thing: upgrading their pass coverage. Fortunately for them, they’ve landed the top free agent cornerback on the market, signing Kendall Fuller to a two-year deal worth up to $16.5 million.

Fuller, 29, is coming off a season where he managed to grade as Pro Football Focus’ seventh-best cornerback despite playing on a Washington Commanders team that surrendered an NFL-worst 262.2 passing yards per game. Despite the leaky Washington secondary, Fuller was able to snag two interceptions, deflect nine passes, and even recovered two fumbles for good measure.

Miami has had to contend with many important players departing this offseason, but Fuller adds some championship bonafides that the Dolphins are hoping will get them over the postseason hump. Fuller won a championship in 2019 with the Kansas City Chiefs, stepping up to block two Jimmy Garrapalo passes in Super Bowl LIV.

This move rounds out the Dolphins’ response to losing their star defensive tackle in Wilkins. The Palm Beach Post’s Joe Schad points out that Fuller and fellow Fins Free Agents Jordyn Brooks, Aaron Brewer, and Jonnu Smith’s salaries are the rough equivalent of Wilkins’ salary with Vegas. Whether prioritizing quantity over star power works out for Miami going forward will remain to be seen.
