The Browns have officially made a deadline move. Donovan Peoples-Jones, affectionately known to fans as DPJ, has been acquired by the Lions in exchange for a 2025 sixth round pick, per Adam Schefter.

Peoples-Jones, who himself was a sixth round pick out of Michigan in 2020, finishes his career with Cleveland with 117 receptions, 1,837 yards and eight touchdowns. One of those touchdowns was a game winning touchdown against the Cincinnati Bengals in his rookie season that capped off a dramatic game-winning drive.

The Michigan product has had limited production so far in 2023, catching 8 passes on 18 targets for 97 yards.

While it is always bittersweet to lose a player as well-liked as Peoples-Jones, the wide receiver will be returning to his hometown of Detroit, Michigan. He attended Detroit’s Cass Tech High School, where he was a five-star recruit coming out of high school. Rivals.com had him rated as the 12th best recruit in the country, and he was named the 2016 Michigan High School Football Player of the Year.

DPJ will likely be a role player on the Lions, who are contending for their first division title since 1993 when they won the NFC Central, a division that no longer exists. He will add to a talented but thin wide receiver room that includes Amon-Ra St. Brown, Josh Reynolds, Kalif Raymond, Jameson Williams, and 2023 seventh round pick Antoine Green.

The Browns, meanwhile, have Amari Cooper, Elijah Moore, Marquise Goodwin, David Bell, and 2023 third round pick Cedric Tillman remaining on their active roster.
