The Numbers Behind Cincinnati’s Letdown Against Houston
After playing their best football of the season over the past few weeks, the Cincinnati Bengals failed to show up against a young and thriving Houston Texas team on Sunday. Mistakes all over the field took an opportunity away from Joe Burrow and Co. as the Browns did them a favor in evening up the AFC North. Here are some of the numbers that better tell the story of Cincinnati’s letdown.
2 – Joe Burrow threw 2 passes that were longer than 60 yards, one to Ja’Marr Chase and one to Tyler Boyd.
2 – Joe Burrow threw two interceptions, both of which were in the fourth quarter.
2 – Tyler Boyd had two drops on the day, one of which was a pass in the end zone which would have given the Bengals the lead late in the 4th quarter.
164 – The Texans had 164 more yards of offense than the Bengals on the afternoon.
150 – Devin Singletary had 150 rushing yards on the day; he had 209 on the entire season going into today’s game.
172 – Houston’s Noah Brown had 172 receiving yards in the game; last week, he had 152 receiving yards.
1 – This is the second consecutive week where the Bengals only had one sack, a combined effort by Logan Wilson and Trey Hendrickson.
1 – Germaine Pratt had the lone tackle for loss for the Bengals in this game.
4 – Cam Taylor-Britt’s interception late in the fourth quarter was his fourth interception in the last five games.
3 – The Bengals recovered three fumbles on the day (DJ Reader, Mike Hilton, and Orlando Brown Jr. on a Burrow fumble).
5 – Joe Burrow’s first five completions of the game were to Tanner Hudson.
1 – Trenton Irwin’s 32 yard TD reception was his first TD catch of the year.
-1 – Joe Mixon had two receptions for -1 yards today.
5 – The Texans’ game ending field goal was one of five game ending field goals in Week Ten, an NFL record for a single week.
1 – Evan McPherson made both of his field goals and all three of his PATs on Sunday. He has only missed a single kick since the beginning of October.
14 – Before the Texans’ game-ending field goal, Noah Brown caught a ball at the 34 yard line and shook a Germaine Pratt tackle to run 14 yards after the catch was made. The YACs put the Texans well within a comfortable field goal range.
114 – Before that one devastating drop in the end zone, Tyler Boyd had 114 receiving yards in the game.
10 – The Bengals scored ten points in a time span of exactly two minutes late in the fourth quarter after Cam Taylor-Britt’s interception of CJ Stroud.
3, 13 – While the Bengals had 3 fewer penalties than the Texans, they had 13 more penalty yards on the day.
