Tyler Boyd was widely expected to depart the Bengals following the 2023 season. That possibility will likely become a reality sooner rather than later.

The longtime reliable receiver will finish his 8 season career in Cincinnati with 513 receptions, exactly 6,000 career yards, and 31 touchdowns. Boyd eclipsed 1,000 yards in 2018 and 2019, and also averaged at least ten yards per catch in all eight seasons as a Bengal.

After being selected in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh product out-performed nearly every receiver selected ahead of him. Of the six taken ahead of him, only Michael Thomas has had the more productive career. Even taking into account the fact that Thomas was the NFL’s best receiver in the late 2010s, he only has 52 more receptions, 569 more career yards, and 5 more career touchdowns than Boyd.

His most notable moment as a Bengal came in the final week of 2017, as his fourth down catch ended the Baltimore Ravens’ playoff chances. That pass sent the Buffalo Bills, who hadn’t made the playoffs in 17 years until then, into a frenzy.

He has primarily played a complementary role in the Bengals’ offense, and he’s played it well. He played second fiddle to AJ Green in the early stages of his career and Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins in the later part of his career in Cincinnati.

In Tennessee, he will join Calvin Ridley, DeAndre Hopkins, and Treylon Burks in the wide receiver room to catch passes from second year quarterback Will Levis.
